DATE: Edwardian, c.1912

A charming antique envelope pendant dating from the Edwardian period, 1912. It would originally have been designed and used to store postage stamps, with a folding down lid flap and a little clasp to hold them secure. Contrary to what is often said, postage stamps are not legal tender in Britain... merchants are welcome to accept them as payment, as well as Euros, Dollars, shells, feathers, gold ingots, or whatever. However, they're not obliged to accept anything (even sterling - a sale is, of course, at the discretion of the seller). Legal tender only covers pounds sterling, and means it cannot be refused as a court-ordered debt payment. The pendant's crafted in sterling silver with clear Chester hallmarks and a maker's mark.
